What are the Side Effects of CBD?

There has been a huge buzz lately around CBD. One of the main concerns when we speak to potential customer is what are the side effects of CBD and how does it fit in with my current lifestyle.

As with anything whether it be food or topical everything has side effects. Whether it be ingested or topical each body is unique and how you body reacts varies from person to person.

To better understand the effects or side effects of CBD, you first need to understand what CBD is.

CBD is a cannabinoid, a substance that exists within the Cannabis sativa plant and is a cousin of THC. When consumed, CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a health system discovered in the 1970s and named after the plant that helped researchers find it in the first place.

This health system, which exists within all mammals, is activated through cannabinoids, both those which our own body creates and those that we ingest from cannabis. When we add cannabinoids into our system our primary receptors CB1 and CB2 in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) are triggered. The different effects are primarily based on where the receptors are located.

For an example, CB1 receptors are mostly located in the brain and nervous system, so when triggered, these receptors can help diminish the feeling of pain as well as encourage the release of helpful brain neurochemicals like serotonin and melatonin. CB2 receptors, which are spread throughout the body deal things like cell regeneration or the bodies inflammation response.

So, when we absorb CBD into our system we are encouraging our bodies to heal themselves naturally using the same pathways and methods that we normally use to recover. How each body triggers into action may vary and how your body reacts there may be unintended side effect as that is with anything that we introduce into our system.

What do we mean by side effects?

There are side effects for anything that we ingest or put on our bodies. The human body is a complex system so when you change anything in your system it is very likely that it will affect other things in your system unintentionally. These unintentional changes are what we call side effects.

For example, a side effect of taking allergy medication that aims to block histamines that causes inflammation to your cells but as a result you might find yourself tired and having less energy. This happens as a result of the medicine’s effects, but is still unintended.

So what are the possible side effects of CBD?

The side effects of CBD changes and depending on your usage of it and what other medications or activities are incorporated into your lifestyle will vary. For an example some people use CBD to help lower their blood pressure, one of CBD’s benefits is that it helps relax the vascular walls of your circulatory system letting blood flow through your system more easily. While this may aid in lowering ones blood pressure but for someone else who may be using CBD for another reason and has abnormally low blood pressure may be potentially harmful to their system so their dosage may require some adjustments.

CBD is, like any other supplement or medication and is not entirely insular. The benefits of CBD and when used properly has seen to yield very little side effects. And it is always advised that if you are taking medications prescribed by your doctor or have any underlying pre-conditions/illnesses that you consult with your doctor.
